The 2022 AAlchemy “Give Me A Break!” Film Festival

AAlchemy’s “Give Me A Break!” Film Festival – GMAB – may be exactly what you are looking for to showcase and win commercial streamer recognition for your creative genius.

Now in its seventh year providing free marketing support and funding for creator filmmakers, choreographers and dancers, the non-profit National Performing Arts Funding Exchange and its AAlchemy initiative have organized GMAB purposefully to showcase excellence in filmmaking and concert dance to the world’s major streamers.

Submissions will be judged by an international team of senior film producers and performing artists who, during their professional careers, have been commissioned and supported by Google, the BBC, Apple, the African Games, major international venues, and major foundations to create and present compelling stage and screen productions.

Festival finalists and winners will be honored in New York City at Manhattan’s famed Arts On Site in the East Village on Sept 27-28, 2022.

The Festival’s Purpose

With an emphasis on films and videos that incorporate and emphasize dance performance and choreography, GMAB is empowering innovative teams of filmmakers and performing artists to present short film works to new audiences and to major streamers like Netflix, HBO and Amazon.

GMAB reflects AAlchemy’s continuing focus on cinematic design, both traditional or experimental, that is centered on original choreographic themes and concert and site specific dance designed by creators, filmmakers and performers to tell a story.

Selected videos together with Festival winners will be presented at a live screening in late September 2022 in New York City; the venue to be announced shortly; submission fees are minimal and are waived for early bird submissions; Festival winners receive $500; details follow below.

What Is “Immersion Of The Mind”?

“Immersion Of The Mind” ™ 2D videography turns the filmmaking process on its head.

Performers themselves become main collaborators in directing how camera and post-production people must have – and use – a deep knowledge of the artistry that they are recording, and how they must position the camera during filming and do the editing in the cutting room.

Imagine what would happen if camera people didn’t have a feel, or had no knowledge of music or dance while filming “The Nutcracker” or a revival of “West Side Story” or “Chorus Line”. Most and perhaps all of what is compelling in those stories would be lost in the video.

See for yourself! This marvelous BBC Arts video, “Do I Have Free Will?”, produced by London’s Northerntown Productions and choreographed by AAlchemy mentor Jamiel Laurence shows how real viewer immersion can be achieved in 2D. Want to see more examples? Click here.
